A miracle-working icon from the city of Mozhaysk. Saint Nicholas is dressed as a bishop in liturgical robes. In his hands he holds a sword and a small church. He is flanked by Christ and the Mother of God. On the edge: Saint Venerable Hilarion of Gaza and Saint Martyr Uar. Poliment gilded halos.

St. Nicholas was born around 283 in Patara, today ruins near Kalkan in Turkey and died around 348 in Myra, today Demre in Turkey. He is considered to be one of the most famous saints of the Eastern and Latin Churches. His feast days, December 6, May 9 and July 29 are associated with numerous customs. His Greek name “Nikólaos” means "victory of the people" and was already in use in pre-Christian times.

St. Ven. Hilarion of Gaza, "the Great"  (October 21) was a hermit and offered. He was born around 290 in Gaza and died in 372 in Cyprus where many churches bear his name.  St. Mart. Uar  (November 1) lived in Egypt during the persecution of Christians. As a general and secret Christian, he supported the persecuted and prisoners because of their faith.
