Saint Nicholas was born around 283 in Patara, today ruins near Kalkan in Turkey and died around 348 in Myra
(Lycia), today Demre in Turkey. He is considered to be one of the most famous saints of the Eastern and Latin Churches. His feast days, December 6, May 9 and July 29 are associated with numerous customs. In the first half of the 4th century Nicholas was Bishop of Myra in the Lycia region of Asia Minor, at that time part of the Roman, later the Byzantine Empire, now Turkey. His Greek name Nikólaos means "victory of the people" and was already in use in pre-Christian times. Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of Russia, children, women who wish to have children, women giving birth, the elderly, travelers, seafarers, judges, lawyers, notaries, pharmacists, landlords,
for happy marriages and for the recovery of stolen items.
The Saint Martyr Charalambos (February 10), was bishop of Magnesia and is considered the patron against plague, cholera and cattle diseases.
Saint Martyr Antipas (April 11) was bishop of Pergamon from whose grave Myron flowed and thereby healings took place. He is considered the patron saint of dentists.
According to legend, Saint Anastasia of Rome "the elder" (October 29), was a young woman who vowed virginity and entered a monastery. In the persecution under Emperor Valerian, she was cruelly tortured and killed.
