Restoration & Conservation

Protect your Russian Icons
Russian icons are sometimes exposed to external influences, which can have a negative impact on their nature or their expressiveness. Icons, depending on their nature and quality, can be very delicate works of art, the condition of which you should regularly monitor and which you should always maintain.
Conservation has therefore always been an important task, especially and especially for the generations that follow us.
You are welcome to bring your icons to us so that we can carry out an initial assessment (free of charge) and, if necessary, commission a restoration.
Ikonen Mautner cooperates with international experts in the field of icon restoration. You are also welcome to send us pictures in advance by email.

Appraisal & Expertise

Let your icon be appraised

As an icon trader for over 60 years, we have seen countless exhibits of Russian icons from different eras.

You are welcome to bring your exhibits personally to our shop to get a first free appraisal. However, we would like to point out that we, as Ikonen Mautner, do not issue any expertise nor directly officially appraise. For this we have internationally recognized experts, including the Vienna Dorotheum and its icon expert Archpriest Chrysostomos Pijnenburg, who is also the Russian Orthodox Archpriest in Vienna and icon painter. We are happy to accept your icon for review.

Professional appraisals and expertise are subject to a fee.

You are welcome to send us your icon in advance via email (including pictures and any documentation). If the icon fits into our collection, we offer a direct purchase or take the icon on commission.
